CUSTOMER PROBLEM

Some of the computers located in the accounting office lost connection to the servers, which severely hampered the performance of daily duties.

OUR SOLUTION

We sent our network engineer to the site, whose eyes on the spot showed a classically looped switch (read: unmanageable). By trial and error, he managed to find and identify the suspended port.

The reason for the failure? He found a patch cord plugged into a socket on the floor – a patch cord that had been left behind when the workstation was decommissioned. It turned out that one of the employees (not wanting the cable to lie “loose” on the floor) – simply plugged the other end into an adjacent socket. In doing so, he looped the switch and caused the equipment to fail.

We took away the unnecessary patch cord, which automatically got rid of the problem of no network connection. In addition, we provided tips to avoid such situations in the future.
